Many addicts feel trapped as though there is no way out. Fortunately, there is a way out and help available, even in the darkest of times. Based in Houston, Texas, Bay Area Recovery Center offers support and options to addicts. We create a schedule that is designed around the lives of those who work and need help.

What is Intensive Outpatient Therapy?

Intensive Outpatient Therapy, also known as IOP, gives people a chance to fulfill their commitment to work, school, or other obligations but still have an opportunity to receive immersive, intense group and individual therapy for addiction to drugs or alcohol.

Our online IOP program is designed around those who work, attend school, or have other obligations. There are two programs with varying levels of involvement depending on your needs and what will work best for you. Both men and women of varying ages, backgrounds and socioeconomic levels can benefit from IOP programs in Houston, TX. After all, addiction is an affliction that knows no boundaries.

IOP clients attend group counseling sessions three times each week from 6-9 p.m. in addition to weekly individual counseling sessions. IOP treatment typically lasts 45 days.

Our intensive outpatient therapy is extremely thorough, which is typically what you need in the beginning of your recovery. IOP programs give you constant interaction with people and your team. Each week, you will spend nine hours in interactive group counseling sessions for chemical dependency and have a minimum of one hour in an individual counseling session.

Many addicts also hold jobs, maintain a family life, and keep up a daily routine, all while battling their addiction. This is true of those who have “minor” addictions, who are chemically dependent, or who have been addicts for so long that they have learned to function despite the disease. However, this type of lifestyle is still destructive to one’s health, daily life, and family.

Addiction does not just hurt the person who is consumed by it. It also hurts everyone around him or her. Employers and friends may notice a change in the person. Family members see first-hand what the drugs do to the person who abuses them.

Oftentimes, they can become aggressive and irrational if they are not able to obtain their fix. All of this can be very harmful and painful for both the addict and their loved ones. Online outpatient rehab programs offer options for those dealing with addiction in their everyday lives.

The goal is complete abstinence from the drugs and/or alcohol that has taken over your life. The biggest step is identifying and solving the emotional and behavioral issues that have led to the substance abuse and are the underlying cause of the continued use.

Therefore, the majority of our intensive outpatient therapy is devoted to group and individual counseling. The counseling is comprehensive, intense and frequent. Some people need more help during different times of the recovery process or during harder times in life and our IOP program is there for you when you need the help most.

With this option, we have an entire team that works as your advocate. This team is a combination of doctors, psychiatrists, social workers, therapists, nurses, and other mental health workers. Everyone has your best interests at heart and works to get you the help you need.

This is done through our customized IOP programs in Houston, TX, based on individual and group counseling and other activities. At Bay Area Recovery, we can help you achieve mental, physical, spiritual, and psychological healing and growth.

What to Expect From Outpatient Programs

We offer a caring, comfortable, and non-restrictive environment in which you interact with others. We have ensured that our programs provide a high level of support, interactive therapy, and a great deal of education. You will learn the side effects of drug and alcohol addiction, including the impact it has on friends and family. Friends and family to be active participants in your recovery because they are a big part of your life and it is important that your healing and growth include them.

In addition, your friends and family will also be your biggest support system. It will take their understanding and love to help you overcome the addiction and get your life on track.

Drug abuse takes an emotional toll on a relationship and trust is often broken by an addict’s erratic, dishonest, and even violent behavior. Restoring the precious relationships in your life can take a lot of time and emotional energy. Our professional therapists in our in-person and online outpatient rehab programs can help you bridge the gap created by your addiction so that you can initiate honest communication with those you love and care about.

About Our Supportive Outpatient Program

We also offer a supportive online rehab program version that is more like a continuing support program for those who feel that they grow and heal better on their own or for those who have a great support system. This consists of interactive group counseling three hours a week and individual counseling on a monthly basis.

These programs are designed to address your needs while you continue to live at home and go to work or school, and handle your daily responsibilities. For some, this is the best way for them to heal because they learn to cope in real time with situations in their own lives.

You do not have to fight the battle alone. We believe the approach, delivery, and atmosphere are one of the most important elements in achieving success.

The First Steps

Denial is a big part of addiction. You may have convinced yourself that you are perfectly okay despite weight loss, heart palpitations, paranoia, dental problems and other physical and mental conditions associated with drug abuse.

Follow these steps to start the journey to virtual drug rehabilitation:

STEP 1. Realizing that you have a problem and seeking help is the biggest step you can take toward recovery.

STEP 2. The next step is getting involved in a quality online rehab program such as the ones we offer here. Talking to one of our professionals about your addiction and letting us put together plans tailored to your needs will put you on the path to recovery faster.

STEP 3. Staying committed to the outpatient program is the third step. Using the techniques and tools you learn in counseling for your daily life will help you heal and deal with the things that you formally used drugs to overcome.

You will also find yourself and acquire a new purpose in life.

Prevent Relapses with our Supportive Outpatient Program

Although our therapy sessions may come to an end at some point, your recovery does not. It is a choice every day to make that day a sober one. Plus, if you ever feel like you may slip back into chemical abuse and addiction, our doors are always open and we welcome you back with open arms. We want you to succeed so we have designed our OP and IOP programs as a way to build friendships and connections instead of just a way to receive treatment.

If you are ready to take the step toward recovery, give us a call. Our doors are always open to getting you the help you seek. We can discuss your addiction, determine if this is right for you, and put together an intensive therapy that is customized to your needs. We believe in our in-person and online outpatient rehab program because we feel that the more consistency you have in your life during this time the more successful your outcome will be.

There is no need to quit your job or leave your loved ones for an extended period of time. Outpatient works when the medical professionals are committed to your healing and growth and you are committed to the IOP program. We have a successful track record of helping addicts recover from their disease, based on the twelve-step program. Let us help you make your recovery a success.

Intensive Outpatient Program

Each week clients spend nine hours in interactive group counseling for chemical dependency and have at least one hour in an individual counseling session with a substance abuse counselor specialized in treating their type of addiction. The IOP program is intense but allows the person to maintain their job to support their family while undergoing treatment after work.

Supportive Outpatient Program

Each week clients spend three hours in interactive group counseling and have individual counseling with a substance abuse counselor monthly. We offer a caring, comfortable and non-restrictive environment in which to interact with individuals. Designed to address the needs of the client while they remain living at home. We provide a high level of support, interactive therapy, and a great deal of education.

Partial Day Program

Bay Area Recovery Center offers a partial day IOP program in Houston which allows clients whose condition has stabilized to take greater responsibility for their sobriety. The program is designed for clients to access the residential community for day treatment while not interrupting their existing life obligations.

The client is able to return home for the evening and spend the night in their own environment. Bay Area Recovery ensures that our IOP program exists for the benefit of the client including a willingness to allow for the schedules of those with demanding lifestyles. The outpatient in-person and online outpatient treatment program offered by Bay Area Recovery Center is designed for success in addressing the affliction which has impacted so many within our communities.

Intervention

Addressing outpatient mental health is the key for those battling chemical dependency. This is why one of the main forms of treatment in an intervention is for the patient to recognize and address the reality of their addiction. An intervention is often the first step on the road to recovery. It offers an opportunity for the addict to recognize their dependency as well as provide an opportunity for family and friends to support their loved one in a truthful and constructive environment.

We understand that oftentimes a person who is receiving an intervention may be resistant due to denial. They also may be angry, feel betrayed, and unwilling to accept treatment. Many of our therapists have been there and understand the sensitivity required when confronting someone who is struggling with chemical dependency. They will guide and support you and your loved ones as you engage with the addict during this very important step in the recovery process.

Our success rate speaks for itself. In spite of how it may appear, there is hope. Remember, we have been there. The Bay Area Recovery Center offers an IOP program designed to address the cause of chemical dependency.

BARC’s outpatient mental health program offers the best opportunity for complete recovery. Part of that success is due to guiding the patient in understanding the extent in which they have impacted not only their lives but the lives of those around them. Enabling the addict is not an option. It will only prolong their affliction and cause greater pain and suffering for those involved.

An intervention is a proactive step administered with a systematic approach that guides addicts to recognize their illness and offers family and friends the courage to be strong for their loved one. Once this reality is accepted, then and only then will the patient be able to accept responsibility for their addiction; but also embrace intensive outpatient therapy. What we offer to those afflicted by chemical dependency is hope.

The Physical Aspects of Outpatient Treatment

When a patient enters IOP programs in Houston, TX, the more obvious symptoms displayed are physical. The patient’s overall health and well-being are of the utmost importance to our staff. In our online outpatient rehab program, we adhere to treating the whole person, and part of treating patients during outpatient is centered on education.

Often, when those suffering from chemical dependency medicate themselves, they embrace the escape mechanism the drug offers without understanding the short-term and long-term damage they are doing to themselves. Proper education in an outpatient program offers the power of information as to how the effects of the addiction impact their physical being.

The Brain

Alcohol has been proven to interfere with the brain’s communicative pathways. It alters how the user views the world around them. While undergoing online outpatient alcohol treatment, patients will learn to see how this interference alters moods which impacts behavior.

This behavior, specific to the patient, is one of the many elements addressed during IOP Treatment. The counselors who work in our outpatient program educate the patient as to how their altered behavior resulted in bad choices.

The Heart

While there has been some research to support that moderate usage of alcohol may prevent coronary heart disease, do not be misled. The counselors who work in BARC’s outpatient treatment program will tell you that long-term effects of alcohol use can lead to high blood pressure, cardiomyopathy, arrhythmias and stroke.

When either you or your loved one enters into our outpatient programs, you will not be prescribed the “everything in moderation” approach to recovery. Substance dependency is very dangerous and our intensive outpatient program helps individuals down the road of recovery, which is achieved only through complete abstinence.

The Liver and Pancreas

Long-term alcohol dependency has proven to cause a variety of medical problems in these two organs including steatosis, fibrosis, cirrhosis and hepatitis. The extensive use of alcohol causes the pancreas to produce toxic substances which bring about pancreatitis.

The Immune System

Due to the erosive effect alcohol has on the body, its immune system weakens, making it an easy target for infection and disease. During our IOP programs, our counselors teach that in addition to pneumonia and tuberculosis, the more aggressive diseases associated with alcohol dependency are cancer of the mouth, esophagus, liver, pancreas, and mammary glands.

In providing the patient with important health information in the in-person and online outpatient rehab program, Bay Area Recovery Center believes that the patient will be empowered to become their own sobriety advocate. We also educate the patient and their loved ones on how the damage goes beyond that of a physical nature but also impacts the mental and spiritual state of all involved.

We believe that the education offered through in-person and online IOP programs brings knowledge. That knowledge brings hope to the addicted as well as their family and friends.

Addressing the Mental State

Of the many things we educate our patients about during IOP treatment; it is becoming aware of the signs of addiction. Other than the physical signs, there are symptoms that indicate that either you or your loved one is suffering from addiction.

During therapy in our intensive online outpatient rehab program, we address the symptoms of the patient’s addiction as a means to better understand that their behavior is linked to their affliction. Anything from missed appointments to a sudden withdrawal from social events and engagements are signs that there are underlying problems that are not being addressed.

During IOP treatment, our staff adheres to the mindset that any avoidance of the subject only increases the level of damage the addiction can cause. Of course, the first step in the online outpatient treatment program is admitting there is a problem.

In outpatient treatment, BARC’s approach to addressing the mental state of the patient includes challenging the patient to admit that there is a problem. Before anyone can enter into an outpatient program, there has to be recognition and acceptance that the addiction has harmed them and those around them. This is one of the first hurdles in outpatient treatment; the surrendering to the journey toward sobriety.

Prior to entering the online rehab programs, the patient must accept the fact that there is a problem. This is often one of the most challenging parts of the road to recovery. The reason for this is simple.

As one begins outpatient, living a life free from chemical dependency directly challenges the mental state of the patient. It challenges their security. During IOP treatment, we address the truth about their situation and the consequences their addiction is causing. We believe that through intensive outpatient treatment, the truth will set you free.

It is important that our patients have an accurate picture of their situation in order to gain sobriety. This often requires that during our intensive outpatient program, our counselors have to challenge some of the delusions a patient may be harboring. Merriam Webster’s Dictionary defines delusion as, “a persistent false psychotic belief regarding the self or persons or objects outside the self that is maintained despite indisputable evidence to the contrary.”

While this may seem a hard challenge, our intensive outpatient program counselors have the necessary training and real-world experience to address the mental state of the patient so that total sobriety can be achieved.

The Spiritual Component of BARC’s Intensive Outpatient Program

In addressing the whole person, we believe that there is a spiritual component to addiction. Oftentimes, it is the misunderstanding or lack of spiritual awareness that opens the door to addiction, ushering in long-term pain instead of providing relief from suffering.

During our intensive online outpatient rehab program, we get to the root of the addiction in a program that is nurturing and effective. Bay Area Recovery offers help, with the goal to see the patient truly set free from addiction. The Intensive outpatient program offers not only relief from suffering, but proper care and treatment so patients can live productive lives, sustained apart from drugs and alcohol.

This Recovery Center is by far the best Recovery place I have ever been, they you about the illness of alcoholism and the solution of the Program of Alcoholics Anonymous in the basic text of Alcoholics Anonymous. As long as your willing, open minded, and honest. You can get what they have of a spiritual awakening/experience. Everyone that works there has been through the house and knows the struggles you are going through and you will be able to relate with you. There is no judgement.

This place is probably the most important place I've ever had the fortune to visit. When I showed up here a year ago, I was bitter, selfish and a shadow of who I thought I was. If you or a loved one needs or wants to make a change, I can't recommend it more. The system they have here and the groups can genuinely help, even if you aren't fully willing, the messages will stick and make a new start possible.

I checked in Bay Area Recovery in May 2023, I went into House 3 for inpatient help with alcohol and drug addiction. What I found at Bay Area is a warm and loving group of people that really care about the clients. It's a family I never knew I had. These people rolled out the red carpet for me and made me feel at home. They showed me how to get sober with the 12-steps of AA and gave me the necessary tools to stay sober, taught me a new way of life. I am eternally grateful to Bay Area Recovery and the staff. If anyone needs help this is the place to be. Everyone at Bay Area has been through this program and completely understands. Thanks for everything.Kyle Johnson
