Let's Face It:
Addiction Hurts Everyone.

As many of you may have noticed, BARC has a new image and a new message: Let's face it -- addiction hurts everyone. Our new message is a wakeup call to addicts, letting them know they're not just hurting themselves.

The truth is, alcoholism and drug addiction affect every single person around the sufferer. We hear heart-wrenching stories every day. A 4-year-old boy suffers an asthma attack while his mommy is passed out cold. The police raid a house for meth, bringing out the underweight dad, the pregnant mom and two barefoot kids in dirty diapers crying from withdrawal. The list goes on and on, but the stories are all the same. They all bring heartache and sorrow to the family, friends and loved ones of addicts.

What those addicts need is a reality check. An out-of-self, life-changing recovery. That's what we do at BARC, because let's face it -- addiction hurts everyone. But we know there is always hope and recovery can change everything. Let's face it -- recovery affects everyone.
BARC for Women

You heard right. BARC now provides residential drug treatment for both men and women. You've all been asking us for years when we're going to open a treatment division for women, and now we finally have. Now wives, mothers, daughters and sisters can go through the same program of recovery and experience the same home-like atmosphere we've always provided for men. Plus, we know a lot of women in recovery who are anxious to help others. We are excited to give women the opportunity to turn their lives around and make a difference in the community.

BARC Answers the Call of the Community

Congratulations for a successful day of Feed the Homeless in downtown Houston in December! Many of you gave your time, others provided blankets, jackets and socks, and believe us, it really made a difference. An incredible number of people are suffering from the difficult economic times. In the last six years, this is the largest turnout we've had. An estimated 250 volunteers donated their time and energy to the event and approximately 300 hot plates were served. In addition to a hot meal, the crew also distributed the blankets, socks and resource packets that you helped provide.

So we want to thank you for your support and we look forward to many years of giving and helping others with you.
